10 Prayers of Forgiveness from the Qur’an


1.

Qala rabbana thalamnaanfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana watarhamnalanakoonanna mina alkhasireen

They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (Qur’an 7:23)

2.

Waqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen

And, [O Muhammad], say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.”(Qur’an 23:118)

3.

La yukallifu Allahu nafsanilla wusAAaha laha ma kasabatwaAAalayha ma iktasabat rabbana latu-akhithna in naseena aw akhta/narabbana wala tahmil AAalayna isrankama hamaltahu AAala allatheena minqablina rabbana wala tuhammilnama la taqata lana bihi waAAfuAAanna waghfir lana warhamnaanta mawlana fansurna AAalaalqawmi alkafireen

Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”(Qur’an 2:286)

4.

Wama kana qawlahum illaan qaloo rabbana ighfir lana thunoobanawa-israfana fee amrina wathabbit aqdamanawansurna AAala alqawmi alkafireen

And their words were not but that they said, “Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”(Qur’an 3:147)

Rabbana innana samiAAnamunadiyan yunadee lil-eemani an aminoobirabbikum faamanna rabbana faghfirlana thunoobana wakaffir AAannasayyi-atina watawaffana maAAa al-abrar

Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous.(Qur’an 3:193)

Wakhtara moosaqawmahu sabAAeena rajulan limeeqatina falammaakhathat-humu arrajfatu qala rabbi lawshi/ta ahlaktahum min qablu wa-iyyaya atuhlikunabima faAAala assufahao minna in hiyailla fitnatuka tudillu biha man tashaowatahdee man tashao anta waliyyuna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru alghafireen

And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, “My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.(Qur’an 7:155)

7.

Rabbana ighfir lee waliwalidayyawalilmu/mineena yawma yaqoomu alhisab

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.” (Qur’an 14:41)

8.

Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen

Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'(Qur’an 23:109)

9.

Wallatheena jaoo minbaAAdihim yaqooloona rabbana ighfir lana wali-ikhwaninaallatheena sabaqoona bil-eemani walatajAAal fee quloobina ghillan lillatheena amanoorabbana innaka raoofun raheem

And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, “Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.” (Qur’an 59:10)

10.

Rabbi ighfir lee waliwalidayyawaliman dakhala baytiya mu/minan walilmu/mineena walmu/minatiwala tazidi aththalimeena illatabaran

My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction.” (Qur’an 71:28)
